Myofascial release

Myofascial release is a type of physical therapy that is regularly used to treat and manage the effects of myofascial pain syndrome (MFPS). MFPS is a chronic pain disorder usually attributed to the tightness and increased sensitivity of myofsacial tissues (muscle and fascia).

Pain from MFPS can usually be traced to a specific point, also known as ‘trigger points’. At times it is difficult to determine why the trigger point is causing the pain and is also difficult to localise.

Myofascial release focuses on decreasing muscular tightness and increasing muscular length, to address the decrease in flexibility and function in motion.
